Mini Crane Hire in Melbourne

Ready to Lift? Request Your Equipment Here.

Mass Hire has been supplying mini crane hire Melbourne businesses rely on since 2016, for the jobs a standard crane can’t touch. We’re a proud CICA member, and every crane in our fleet is a genuine Maeda spider crane, the brand most crews ask for by name when access is tight and the lift needs to be precise.

We run six Maeda cranes across our fleet, from 1.7 tonnes up to over 4 tonnes, so there’s a good chance we’ve got the right one for your site regardless of how difficult the access is. Standard doorway, lift shaft, floor that can’t take much weight: that’s the kind of job these cranes are built for.

Why a Mini Crane Is the Right Choice

Mini cranes earn their keep when access is restricted and the lift needs to be controlled and precise: internal fit-outs, basements, lift wells, glazing installations, and sites where floor loading rules out a heavier machine. Their compact width and low ground-bearing pressure mean they can go where standard mobile cranes simply can’t.

When You Might Need Something Else

If the job is outdoors with clear access and no space restrictions, a mobile crane will usually be faster to mobilise and more cost-effective. Our team will always point you to the right equipment for your site, even if that means a mobile crane, forklift, or one of our Oktopus glass lifting attachments instead.

Hire Rates

We offer competitive daily rates for short-term jobs, and more competitive rates for longer-term hire, so whether it’s a single day’s lift or an extended project, we can structure a rate that fits the job. Get in touch for a quote based on your crane, duration, and site.

  • Need glass handling too? Pair your crane hire with our Oktopus glass lifters or glass robots and deal with one supplier for the whole job

FAQ:

Do you provide an operator with crane hire?

Mass Hire gives you the flexibility to operate the equipment with your own team, or we can supply a fully licensed operator if you’d prefer, available at an additional cost. Whichever way you go, it’s important the crane is only ever run by someone holding the correct licence for that equipment. If you’re using your own team, we’ll make sure you know exactly what’s required before the crane arrives on site.

Can Maeda cranes be used with Oktopus glass manipulators?

Yes, and it’s one of the most common combinations we supply. Maeda’s crawler cranes give you the reach and access to get into tight or elevated positions, while an Oktopus manipulator handles the actual glass panel with vacuum suction, giving the operator precise, controlled placement without manual handling risk. This pairing works well for glazing, curtain wall installation, and shopfront work, anywhere you need both crane access and fine control over a fragile or heavy panel at the point of placement.

Can I get an extra hook or different attachment with my crane hire?

Yes. Depending on the job, our cranes can be fitted with different hook types (including searcher hooks for tighter reach) or other attachments to suit the lift. Tell us what you’re lifting and where, and we’ll match the right hook or attachment to the crane.

How do you make sure equipment doesn't cause downtime on my job?

Every crane is pre-hire checked using proper procedures before it leaves us, so you’re not the one discovering a fault on site. Each hire includes a risk assessment and operator manual, and a lift study is available if the job calls for one (additional cost). If you need technical assistance with other equipment, or if something on your current gear looks or feels abnormal, we provide immediate technical support rather than leaving you to work it out alone.

Is there mini crane hire near me in Melbourne?

We supply mini crane hire across Melbourne and regional Victoria, including high-demand areas like Dandenong, Campbellfield, Tullamarine, Cranbourne, and the Mornington Peninsula. Wherever you’re based in Victoria, get in touch and we’ll confirm we can get the right crane to your site.

Are Mass Hire's cranes safety certified?

Yes. Our fleet is CraneSafe inspected and asset-managed and serviced by Lincer, so you’re getting equipment that’s been properly checked and maintained, not just whatever’s available that week.

How do I know which crane is right for my job?

The more information we have, the better the equipment match. Mass Hire can visit your site to assess access, weather exposure, available space for operation, reach, and load capacity, and whether the job is indoor or outdoor, since that alone can change which crane and attachments make sense. Send us what you can up front and we’ll do the rest.

What is the auxiliary winch option, and when do I need it?

Some of our Maeda cranes, including the MC-285C-3, can be fitted with an optional auxiliary winch. It extends the crane’s capability for deeper or underground lifts, for example, the MC-285C-3 can reach down to -100m with the auxiliary winch fitted, compared to -10.1m without it. If your job involves lift shafts, wells, or below-ground work, this is worth mentioning when you enquire so we can confirm the right crane and configuration.
